Quality and Innovation drives growth at Witton-based cable assembly firm

team_smallLeading provider of bespoke cable assemblies, integrated products and logistics services, CHH, has embarked on a major growth strategy, following its recent rebranding to CHH CoNeX and strengthening of its team of directors with the appointment of Shaun Ashmead as director in charge of operations.

The three-year strategy, which will focus strongly on growth in existing and new niche markets, people development and quality assurance, will start with the implementation of new systems and processes to streamline its end-to-end operations, business development functions and further develop the CHH team.

Among other benefits, the new-look business will offer customers innovative design, manufacturing, logistics and related services to create value and minimise waste, thereby becoming a true extension of its customers’ business. This builds on existing strengths in cable assembly concept, design and manufacturing, box-build and rack integration and test, process audit and redesign and supply chain solutions. The company also plans to increase its turnover to £21million over the next three years by diversifying into the aerospace and defence, medical, transport and security markets.

CHH CoNeX currently employs around 105 people at its 85,000 square feet Witton plant.

Managing Director, Tim Hughes, who started the company with eight employees in 1990, said:  “CHH CoNeX is a very well-established cable assemblies, integrated products and logistics services provider with a solid track record in the telecoms, and industrial markets.

“The appointment of Shaun Ashmead as Director responsible for operations is a great win for the business and will enable CHH CoNeX to deliver our products and services at the optimum total cost of acquisition across all of our chosen markets.”

Mr Ashmead, who joins CHH CoNex from his previous role as Managing Director at contract electronics manufacturer, Axiom Manufacturing Services in South Wales, says he is looking forward to his new role:

“CHH CoNeX has a reputation for flexibility, inspired thinking, unparalleled service and financial stability, making it a trusted project partner for its existing customer base. My role will be to leverage the company’s strengths for the advantage of both new and existing customers, enabling them to benefit from a total design to after-sales solution, improved efficiency, added value throughout strong supply chain management and focussed approach to total acquisition cost.”

Mr Ashmead joins other Company Directors, Alan Coley who heads up Design and Technology, Steve Turner who takes over responsibility for Supply Chain Management and Planning, and Andy Whitmore with responsibility for Marketing, Sales and Business Development. Managing Director, Tim Hughes, retains responsibility for HR and Finance.

The show further demonstrates CHH's  commitment to this market which also includes signing up to SC21.

"Twenty First Century Supply Chains (SC21) aims to accelerate the competitiveness of the aerospace and defence industry. With international competition increasing, the participation of companies of all sizes throughout the UK supply chain is crucial to delivering real results from this modernisation programme."

Thank you to all of those companies that came to visit CHH CoNeX on the Midlands Aerospace Alliance stand in hall 1.

During the week, CHH had many interesting conversations with companies who want to partner with an innovator in the field of cable assembly exploring how a partnership can bring value to both organisations.

If you didn't make it to Farnborough and would like to meet a member of the CHH team, please contact us and we will arrange a factory tour when we can discuss how we can add value to your business.

At Farnborough 2008, there were over 1,393 exhibitors with record breaking order figures of US$88.7 billion.

CHH announces its name change to CHH CoNeX

Over the last year CHH has been putting into place ambitious plans to ensure that it continues to grow steadily and profitably.

For 20 years CHH has been delivering a portfolio of capabilities and services to its core market sectors.-

  • Cable assembly concept, design and manufacture

  • Bespoke interconnect solutions through connector and backshell design

  • Box build

  • Rack integration

  • Cable management

  • Process audit and redesign

  • Value added engineering

  • Mechanical and electronic integration and testing

  • Supply chain solutions

Through extensive research and collaboration with strategic partners in aerospace & defence, transport, medical and industrial markets, the need for CHH’s expertise and capabilities in these key sectors has been substantiated.  These partners look to us for innovation, flexibility and excellence in outsourced manufacturing.

From February 2010.  CHH Telecoms will become CHH CoNeX.  CoNeX is short for connecting excellence, which is also our new strap line.  For CHH this is much more than a strap line; it’s about how we create and build value, connect with our stakeholders, delivering excellence through our people, in everything that we do and with everyone that we partner.

This name change marks a significant milestone for our company and is a great opportunity for everyone involved with CHH.  These are exciting times and it is imperative that we send a clear message that maximises the strength of the company's brand and accurately describes our approach and commitment to excellence.

As a result of the planning process a number of key steps have been identified:-

  • Rebranding to reinforce the findings above

  • A strengthening of the organisation : Appointment of key personnel in operations and business development.

  • Creating processes which integrate all business functions

  • Communicating how we address the needs of our key markets

Growth necessitates change. The new name more accurately reflects the company’s leadership position and further aligns our commitment and expertise as an integrated solutions provider to the:-

  • Telecoms

  • Aerospace & defence

  • Transport

  • Security

  • Medical

  • and industrial markets
